The Opportunity Card — Chancenkarte — can allow a person from a non-EU country to enter Germany to look for qualified employment without already holding a permanent job offer. It is not an automatic work visa and it does not guarantee that you will find a job.
There are two broad ways to access the route: as a recognised skilled worker or through the points-system option. The points system is relevant when you cannot show a German qualification or full recognition of your foreign qualification.
Basic points-route requirements
The official German application information says the points option requires evidence of a formal qualification and the required language ability. The current official digital application page states that at least six points are required and refers to:
- vocational training lasting at least two years or an eligible academic qualification;
- at least A1 German or B2 English for the points route;
- sufficient funds for the stay;
- enough points from the official criteria.
